How to Get Started with a Plant-Based Diet

Motivating Yourself to Eat More Vegetables

At Saladmaster, our Dealers are committed to empowering people to eat better. There are a lot of different dietary approaches, and each one can be enjoyed in our Saladmaster cookware. Many of the more popular ones fall under the category of a plant-based diet. Mediterranean, Flexitarian, Nordic, Ornish, and others would be considered “plant based,” because they all emphasize minimally processed foods from plants, with modest amounts of fish, lean meat and low-fat dairy, and red meat only sparingly. U.S. News reports that such diets are “good for the environment, your heart, your weight and overall health.”

Ultimately, if you want to make a major change to your eating habits, you should consult your doctor or a trained nutritional specialist to decide what is best for you.

If you aren’t entirely willing to give up meat, but you are interested in the health benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables, a plant-based approach could be right for you. But how do you get started?

Consider making small adjustments

As mentioned in our blog post about Starting the Year with Atomic Habits, “If you make changes that are small and easy to do, and layer them on top of each other, like units in a fundamental system, you can get powerful results.”

Instead of switching entirely to a plant-based diet, maybe you could set a goal to only eat plant-based meals at home—and then, set another goal to eat out less during the week? Or you could step back further, setting a goal to buy less meat and more vegetables when you are at the grocery store?

Learn more about plant-based diet plans

It should be easier to follow through with a new diet, if you spend time to learn about the benefits. PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) provides
great online resources, such as a vegetarian starter kit and nutritional information for kids. This organization is dedicated to saving and improving lives through plant-based diets and ethical and effective scientific research.

Saladmaster partners with PCRM by hosting Food for Life classes to educate the public on the healing power of food and how to put good dietary practices into action. Contact your local Saladmaster Dealer to find out when the next Food for Life cooking class will take place.

Saladmaster can help

If you want to eat more vegetables, you will be more motivated to do so, if those vegetables taste really great. For that reason, you should consider buying vegetables in the produce section instead of going to the freezer aisle for a microwavable “steamer” bag. You will see how fun it is to use the Saladmaster Food Processor to cut your vegetables, and you will taste the difference!

The waterless Saladmaster method of preparing food will also bring out the delicious natural flavors in your vegetables. As you begin to rediscover the great taste of these foods, you will also begin to make more room for them on your plate.

Give it a try

We often times get stuck in our routines, and that can especially be the case with what we eat. If you are interested in a plant-based diet, you shouldn’t wait. Start today. Change up your habits, and embrace something new—even if it’s wisdom that’s as timeless as a parent reminding you, “Don’t forget to eat your vegetables!”
